Many guests are checking in for the same lesson time and lines form for lesson check-in and rentals. Gear fitting is required before the start of the lesson.

If you are checking in on a weekend or a holiday we suggest arriving 90 minutes prior.

Layering is critical in snow sports.  Make sure to pay special attention to the high and low temperatures for the day, since they will dictate how many layers to wear on the slopes.

Below is a list of gear we recommend for skiing and snowboarding:

  • A single pair of tall, smooth socks. Ski and snowboard boots are well insulated.
  • Water repellent ski pants and jacket.
  • For a layer under your ski pants, choose a thin, flexible layer. Avoid denim.
  • Water repellent gloves.
  • Helmet (you only get one head – protect it!) For a proper fit, bulky hats should be removed.
  • Goggles are helpful when snow blowers are operating or there is precipitation.
  • Sunscreen (SPF 15 or greater) and lip balm.

Yes, if you booked an adult or children group lesson package.

No, if you booked a private lesson. A slope-use ticket is required and purchased separately.

Please note: Slope-use and lift tickets are one in the same.

Yes. A viewing area is available.

Park in tiered parking lots. Walk down hill and around the General Stores. Look for the banner that says, “Learning Center”.

Ski and Snowboard boots should be snug without being uncomfortable. They should feel like a strong hug or firm handshake without being overly tight. Both kinds of boots are stiffer than a regular shoe for both performance and safety purposes.

One key to success is the correct sock! Changing into a dry, thin, tall sock when you put on your boots can make a huge difference in how long your feet stay warm. Make sure your sock is not bunched up. Only a sock and a foot go in your boot. Everything else goes over the top.

Please contact the Learning Center Office at 540.289.4921. If you change your reservation during your lesson check-in time, there will be a $25 change fee charged.

Snow sports lessons may be cancelled or modified, as availability allows, up to 24 hours in advance of the lesson. Lessons cancelled within 24 hours of the lesson time will only receive a 50% refund for cancelled lessons. No refunds will be given for requests made after the start of the lesson.

If you are late for your lesson and the lesson needs to be moved to a different time, a fee of $25 will be applied.

As a beginner, you should have reasonable expectations about your first day out on the mountain. Hopefully, many of the things below will give you a better idea of what to expect, but there are some important basics to be prepared for:

  • Pace yourself and set reasonable expectations, focus on fun.
  • Learning something new is not always easy, but it will be rewarding and exciting when you succeed.
  • Everyone learns at a different pace.
  • A beginner lesson will focus on stance, balance, and learning to control your speed with a wedge turn.
  • Learning to use the chair lift will be dependent upon the pace of the group.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask your instructor questions, they are there to help you learn.

The Learning Area, Paul’s Way, is closed to the public during our lesson times for the safety of our guests and instructors. The surface lifts in this area are reserved for lessons in progress until 5 pm on weekends and holidays. It may open earlier depending upon business.
